Why you want to reduce the number of weapons? :'(

i want to reduce them because too many weapons can confuse the player. which ones are good? which ones are bad? we're going with the official zombies formula where we'll have "tiers" of weapons that will be good, bad, average, and above average. a smaller armory means the player can figure out which weapons are good and bad more quickly, rather than just grabbing what's in the box and using it for the rest of the game.

your attachments system is an interesting idea, but remember that each attachment requires a new weapon file.

Then you still have to factor in PAPed versions which will incorporate PAPed versions of the guns with and without attachments which will eat up those weapon files faster than a fat man at a buffet. That would equal like 4 weapon files at least for each gun. Certainly this could be done if you wanted to have like 15-20 guns with only one attachment option each to take into account the various possibilities. Not sure if anyone wants to commit to that kind of a project though. Those attachments had better be pretty cool to make it worth it; pistol with an under-barrel deathmachine, Kar98 with a spinning dual chainsaw attachment...eh, you get the idea.
