Hi all i have decided to get a laptop , i would be able to map a lot more if i did lol. But all the ones i can see with the spec i would like to get have installed windows 8 for radiant and mod tools. Does anyone here use windows 8 is it much different to using 7 for radiant and mod tools , i know i could partition a seperate OS but also i prefer to have windows 7 as i have a disc i can fresh install with.

It should work just fine at windows 8, could be that you'll have to run the tools in compatibility-mode though.

So it would be better to keep the windows 8 on there instead of 7 as long as i run the compatibility for xp sp3? And as long as it is mostly the same cus i would be doing some map work on the PC ( win 7 ) then doing a bit on the laptop whilst out.

Hi.. mobile processors r bit diffrent as desktop ones...
i7 for laptops ( only MQ/ HQ/ EQ/ EC/ has 4C/8T 6MBcache rest 2C/4T 4MBcache)
i5 for laptops (all have 2C/4T 3MB cache)

I have windows 8 on my netbook and in radiant i cant open the "surface inspector" 
So it would be better to keep the windows 8 on there instead of 7 as long as i run the compatibility for xp sp3?I run the mod tools just fine on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit with no compatibility mode set. All you have to do is set them to run as admin. If worst comes to worst you can set them to run in compatibility mode.
And as long as it is mostly the same cus i would be doing some map work on the PC ( win 7 ) then doing a bit on the laptop whilst out.It's exactly the same. The file locations and everything are the same.

yup, I use win 8 and always have, no issues
I will point out, dual booting win 7 and 8 isnt always easy. If your PC is UEFI its a little more complicated than it used to be
I had to use a separate harddrive for win 7. When I boot in legacy it finds the drive but not the win 8 UEFI drive, and vice versa
After its booted, it detects the other drive. UEFI is a pain is the a**

So far windows 8 seems like a smartphone. Where start was we now have an android type interface. And if in game windows key takes me there instead of desktop. Anyone know if it can be made win7 or classic style. ? Thanks
