yeah he only dies by melee or bus. your best bet in killing him is letting him latch onto the bus, and put a turbine down inside or on top of the bus. if you don't kill him you're basically fucked, because he follows you everywhere. i still think the jockeys are worse.

haven't seen a jockey zombie lol.

i'm not so sure he follows though, i was at the bus station with him attached to the bus, not sure what happened to him, but after turning the power off and then on again (which got me killed later because your perks also go away) spawned right in front of me.
