Hey guys I need a little help.

My PC shuts off completely when I open large environments in Unity 5 and does the same thing with large scenes in Cinema 4D. I'm not sure what to do.  :'(  I've tried restarting my PC and having nothing but Unity running but it still shuts off.

My PC specs:
OS: Windows 7
CPU: AMD FX 8150 (8 core)
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GTX 780 Ti super-clocked
PSU: CORSAIR RM750
Motherboard: Gigabyte M68MT-S2
Storage: 1TB drive and a 2TB drive
Optical Drive: 1 DVD/CD RW
Fans: 3 120mm fans with LED's

Any help would be great. Maybe some tips for monitoring tools or a possible hardware component that needs upgrading.

Thanks,

WhippyTrout

Run some stress tests, since it's Unity and Cinema 4D, etc. that's causing it I would see what your GPU temps are and try different drivers.

Probably overheating?
It also happened to me.

Ok so i logged my GPU using msi afterburner and I saw nothing unusual. So I opened the performance tab in the task manager and watched the CPU and Memory usage and it seems the CPU spikes randomly going from 12 to 79% when it hits 100% the PC shuts off. This all happens in a few seconds. There is no build up or fans reving up. I did this test today on a fresh startup of my PC so overheating from extended use is not the problem.

Do you guys think it's my CPU? Or is it direct X11 because I haven't had this problem with Unity 4.

Also note that my PC shut down yesterday while playing Warhammer Vermintide which I believe uses direct X11. No other game has done this and I run BO3 on 2 monitors and Gta V at max settings.

Any advice would be great. Someone told me to upgrade to Windows 10 but I don't want to.

Hard to really tell for sure. Try running a CineBench CPU only benchmark and see if it crashes then: http://http.maxon.net/pub/benchmarks/CINEBENCH_R15.zip

If it does then its the CPU somehow. How many CPU power cables are powering it anyway? Has to be 2 i would think...

DirectX version is software and wouldn't cause a shutdown.

Thanks man I ran the test and the CPU was fine but OpenGL crashed as soon as I clicked RUN so there's the problem. I'm guessing that is a graphics driver issue so I'm going to try and revert to an older driver and see if that fixes it. I'm still open for advice though.

Ok so since Open gl crashes my entire pc I decided to install an older nvidia driver and test again but my pc still crashes. So I ran my pc in safe mode with networking and now all of the scenes in Cinema 4D that crashed my pc open and work fine.  ???
I cant run CINEBENCH in safe mode, it says I dont have the right features, so I cant run the Opengl test again.

I'm confused as to what is causing this problem. If anyone can help that would be awesome.

So I uninstalled all Nvidia drivers and stuff and reinstalled the newest drivers and it STILL crashes! I can however turn off OpenGL in C4D settings/preferences and then it works great. I'll have to check and see if I can do the same in Unity 5.

Is there something I'm supposed to download for OpenGL to work correctly?

Your power supply isn't enough to power your GPU and CPU. The 780 TI requires atleast 600 while your CPU has a TDP(Not the power requirement but it gives you a rough idea) of 125watts.

Honestly i would have thought a 750 watt power supply was enough but it would seem that your AMD CPU is too much for your current power supply.

I'd recommend getting a 850 or(if you really want to play it safe) a 1000 watt.

Thanks man that makes sense. I dont have the money for a new power supply now but I'll be saving up. Cinema4D seems to be working fine with OpenGL disabled and I'll just keep using Unity 4 instead of 5, I never had any issues with it.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

So does anyone have a suggestion on a good quality 1000 watt power supply? I've heard Corsair are one of the higher quality brands and to go with the gold for less power consumption but I'm open to suggestions.

corsair are high quality ( got my keyboard etc from there ) but in my entire life ive never "needed" a high quality power supply. Id say just get whatever is cheap to medium.

Im sure pc enthusiasts around here will say otherwise, but if they were really as bad as they make out - they would not be on sale - and every pc in a shop would be utter shi%, as these pcs on sale in walmart etc are nearly always made out of the cheapest budget humanly possible

PSU is a PSU. Just get the minimum for what you need, but leave yourself lots of wattage room in case of upgrades

Well I updated my Nvidia graphics card driver the other day to the newest driver that just released and It improved my overall pc. I could even run C4D Bench perfectly with no system shutdowns (which i couldn't even run before). But today my pc has been shutting off randomly while not even doing anything. I was surfing the web with nothing else running but Malware-bytes running a scan and BOOM my pc shutoff. I have the money to buy a new power supply now but I don't want to waste money on a new one if that's not what is causing this problem.

Anyone have any explanation for this problem? Do you still think its the power supply or do you think its something else?

I appreciate any advice and maybe an explanation of what's happening. I'm pulling my hair out.  ???

Sounds like faulty ram to me

Often just popping it out and back in again is enough, otherwise replace. But it causes random issues like sudden crashes, freezes or refusing to start up at all

Not saying thats it, but maybe something to check
