So the title says it all. I would just want to know the biggest unit area map I can make. I'd like to make a zombie map of my school's campus (Washington State University - 1,742 acres). Sorry if this was posted somewhere else! I'm a newbie to forums...

that will be fun to pathnode and no not really but there are a lot of limits and this will probably require a lot of custom models and textures to look good, however specific brushes have  a max size before you start getting errors in the compiler

I remember back when I added a lot of brushes to my one map and I got some error compiling (don't remember what is was). I just made all the brushes "detail" brushes and all was good. Someone helped me on the forums with that one.

Hi,


a really big map will take alot of errors,  I have is already tested only a funny map that so big was and I reached the 2 errors about the pathnodes:

first one was:

Disconnected pathnodes

the second was:

max map nodes error:  (8126 pathnodes max)
I got (9122 pathnodes around 1000 pathnodes to much xD )


but my biggest map was taking alot of limits and errors that sometimes really difficult is to solve.
example:  I got around 20 to 30 doors that you can buy to open it.

but maps crashed and I get the disconnected pathnodes

(the points was that some pathnodes to close with other pathnodes are and to many doors that makes alot of area's with pathnodes like this:)

zone 1 has 40 pathnodes
zone 2 has 15 pathnodes
zone 3 ...
...
...

to many sections that not connected with other sections then the disconnected pathnodes error will coming fast.

but that was my story what I have seen in my big map xD

One Tip maybe if you need it ?


if you using buildings in the distance and you can't reach here also like as example:  Background buildings or buildings with no function only for details then

if you have made an building with brushes or whatever then make it  Non-colliding to make it lighter to load the map and map details

(it does not work on models)

yeah I think what you mean,  if you select in radiant all stuff that you made then it can get a error for a loading brushes and etc.

to fix the lag;


go to View >  Cubic Clipping

that activate or dactivate the map scale (if it is activated then you can see the whole map and when it is dactivated then you can see to some range and when you move somewhere then that will be visible when the range comes closer)
