They're is a shortened version of they are, a use of a verb. How is that similar to Die, das and der whoch is articles?.

Its more similar to languages like French or Spanish where objects are considered masculine or feminine. In the English language we only use the article "the" when addressing an object, but in something like french, they have le la or les - where le is to address a masculine object, la is to address a feminine object and les is to address plural (where we just put an 's' on the end of the word). Although, quickly looking it up, no clue what das is for since it just says "neuter" (I'm guessing a neutral object?).
