is there a legal free download of maya that I could use for importing/exporting models?

You can use the student version of maya found at autodesk's website with the xmodel/xanim plugin here:

Yh autodesk has a student programme but i didnt know maya was included, i got inventor from there it gives you a 3 year licence

thanks! Im hoping being able to work with the gun models in maya will make the whole gun porting thing a smoother operation. (no more annoying tags, and not being able to convert poly heavy guns like the m14)

well yeah, but I mean. you cannot compile some of the assault riffles, because with all the unnecessary tags, it's too much for Asset manager. correct?

Is it not as simple as delete tag in maya, tag gone?
