Hi everyone !
I tried to reskin the Ray Gun using this tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ1IpJLKt-I
but all I get is a white ray gun :



Any ideas on why it does that ?

Did you include your material in csv, if you changed it, and did you include your image in your mod/mapname/images folder, and check it before build? And then did you make sure its making it in by checking your mapname.iwd\images folder?


There is a much easier way to do this with Tom IWI & DDS Converter. You take the iwi, then convert it, then edit it, then convert it back, put it in your images folder, and done, after you build, unless you just copy it to the iwd.

I forgot to add it in the mod.csv ^^
I added this line : "image,ray_gun"

now I get this error in the console, at launch :

Error : image 'images/ray_gun.iwi' is trucated

and a popup telling me the game couldn't load the file

Well, it would only need added to csv if you changed the material name, and it would be material,ray_gun. But that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Did you change the name at all? Is your new image in your appdata mods folder in the iwd?

Hmmm, have you tried backing it up, and putting the original in there. If that fixed it I would think something messed up doing that conversion.

okay so it turns out I did the convertion wrong because when I put the original ray_gun.iwi in my mod/images, and build, it appears normally. I tried to convert my custom dds into iwi via sereval methods, some of them involving hex edits, but in the end all I get is a white texture or a game crash...

Don't worry about assman or assviewer, you didn't retexture the gun and make new materials, your just converting the image and reskinning, and converting back.

Have you tried toms iwi/dds converter? What program are you using to save the dds after editing? paint.net, photshop, gimp?

Just tried it, the game crashed halfway into loading the map, with a popup telling "Unhandled Exception". And the console shows nothing related to the texture.

I used GIMP to edit the .dds

I was never successful with gimp and the dds plugin. I use paint.net with these settings at 4:25

Works perfectly with paint.net ! I used it to edit the dds, then converted it with Tom's DDS & IWI converter. result :
