I recently looked at Johndoe's source-engine map porting tutorial to port a custom map from L4D2 over to WaW.

After I was done, I opened the map in Radiant and looked around to see how it looked like. There's a huge area in the map where if I get too close to it, Radiant freezes.

When I try moving the 3D View Window, it won't move at all. The same applies to the 2D View window as well.

If I try clicking any of the tabs at the top, it starts filling itself up with gray squares...

I'll try and see if I can get a video posted up to show you all what I mean (for those who don't understand what my problem is).

What a coincidence, I recently bumped into the same thing. Fortunately, I found why that happens. There are some models which crashes Radiant for some reason that I haven't found out why. You'll just need to find the model that causes it and delete it from the map. There are only two of them I found which are racecar_damaged and helicopter_rescue. If the map doesn't have one of those, I'm afraid you'll have to find the one that crashes the map yourself.

My map actually has helicopter_rescue in it...I don't know where it is though, so is there any way I can delete a model without opening Radiant?

Open the map file in notepad++ or the text editor of you choice, search for helicopter_rescue and remove the line that looks like this,

Code Snippet
Plaintext
{
"classname" "misc_model""model" "helicopter_rescue""origin" "197.0 98.0 -69.4178""angles" "0.0 180.0 0.0"}

Sure you can. Just open the map with a text editor and search for
Code Snippet
Plaintext
"model" "helicopter_rescue"
and replace with
Code Snippet
Plaintext
"model" "default_static_model"
if that's the model which causes radiant to crash, you'll be able to see that "0wn3d" model after you changed the model's name with the one above.

you can always make layers and hide parts of the map, that will cause it to take less ram and crash less

The problem has been fixed.

I just had to delete a 737 model that I had in my map...

Thanks to those who tried helping me :)
