Update your GPU drivers and optimize your computer(get rid of background processes/startup apps, set power option to performance) is about all you can do to increase performance without buying new hardware.

What hardware does your computer actually have?

make sure you have v-sync enabled if possible too

IF you use a NVIDIA card, try turning on ADAPTIVE V-sync...

V-Sync causes more lag unless you have a GPU that has enough memory for triple buffering.

V-sync causes the image to render regardless of completion, often causing some blurring, but keeping a "steady" frame rate actually

Check the Nvidia website - Its one of the cards "selling points"

Also, regular Vsync only requires "double" buffering - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing

*facepalm*

When they say "steady" they are talking about syncing your computers FPS with your monitor - therefor getting rid of "tearing".

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/358383-33-what-vsync-gaming

With higher end GPUs V-Sync isn't an issue since you have more memory and processors to handle it, but for lower end entry level GPUs with less than a 1GB of Vram its best to stay away.

It all depends on your setup - and clearly his computer can't handle it.

Im guessing i meant "adaptive" V-sync

anyway, all we know is he has a problem, doesnt necessarily mean his pc is underpowered

The article itself says that FPS can dip below 60 or 30 FPS... but whatever lol.

Actually... it says that happens "without" adaptive v-sync on

If you look down, there is a graph comparing on/off. With adaptive on it stays at 60, without it drops between 30 and 60

Not sure what point your trying to make

right under the picture it says : Adaptive VSync dynamically turns VSync on and off to maintain a more stable framerate.

check this out instead : http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/16/nvidia_adaptive_vsync_technology_review/#.VK3IpiKsVrk

However this only applies to Nvidia cards

VSync actually causes a global slow-down, it will limit level loading/unloading like crazy. Normally takes me ~5 seconds to load into a map with VSync (ingame option not com_maxfps 60) it increase level load times to like 15-20 seconds.

Also I've never heard of this problem before... would you record a video and then post some info about computer?

"ADAPTIVE" Vsync... not Vsync...

Adaptive vsync is a new feature on Nvidia cards over the last few years

Its not "regualar Vsync"... read the article...

Plus it was merely a suggestion, if you guys dont like it, just ignore it geez  :rainbow:

Also has 0 to do with loading times, its all about rendering...

I said "ingame option", also it does inhibit load times give it a try.

I know you meant the ingame option, but im talking about a NVIDIA FEATURE that you can only turn on from the NVIDIA control panel...

1. I always have it on

2. Vsync, as has been mentioned here several times, is for the rendering of graphics, nothing to do with the loading or abandonment of data and the Nvidia adaptive vysnc periodically turns vsync on and off, so defo has no effect on loading as it can be done dynamically

Now lets just forget I ever spoke shall we....

Vsync - syncs your FPS with your screen refresh rate to prevent image "tearing"

Nvidia"Adaptive" Vsync also does this, but also forces a frame rate regardless of if graphics are fully rendered. This causes some minor blur to the textures as they are not "always" fully rendered, but this is from "frame to frame" so you would barely realize. this results in what feels like "smooth" gameplay, even if at times your FPS would drop it wont matter - as the feature forces it to render at the correct rate regardless and will "dynamically" deactivate and reactivate regular "V-sync" as required

There loads of videos on Nvidias youtube chanel if you wanted to learn about such features :)

Also, this is the wiki explanation of the NVIDIA V-sync :

Quote
With Nvidia cards there is an option to enable 'Adaptive Vsync'. This option will only turn on vertical synchronization when the frame rate of the rendering engine exceeds the display's refresh rate, leaving the frame rate unlocked otherwise. This eliminates the stutter that occurs as the rendering engine frame rate drops below the display's refresh rate
