I downloaded a couch model which includes a .obj file, a .mtl file, and a .tga file for the textures.

I think I can easily understand what a .obj file is (i'm assuming it's the model), but what about .mtl? and do I do anything with the textures at all?

Any help would be appreciated.

*facepalm* we already told you you cant, you need to import the obj. into maya to use the cod plug ins as there arent any for 3ds studio or whatever program which uses obj.

I wanted to know if there were any other solutions than just using Maya  :P

I also wanted to know if I need to do anything with the .mtl file and the textures

You can import obj in Blender just fine and export it to COD5 if you get the plugins..

Which plugins are you referring to/talking about?

Really not that hard to find if you've heard of a thing called Google...

NP  ;) Although you are aware obj doesn't support bones right? So unless you plan on rigging the models yourself I'd advise you only to use it for static models...

I plan on using it as a static model right now :)

By the way, I had problems following the link that you gave me. If you don't mind, i would appreciate it if you could help me out with this.

So I went to the link, downloaded the add-on, and installed it onto Blender. I selected my .obj model, and upon trying to export it as a CoD XModel (the "xmodel_export" thing) I was given an error and it won't let me do it.

I'm new to this, so if there was something I missed out on or something else that I may have ignored, it would be kind of you to tell me.

I don't use Blender anymore so maybe someone who does might be able to help you better, but I just tried it and had no problems?

I just imported the obj, selected the model (press 'a' I think to select all) selected export as xmodelexport, named it and clicked export and got my xmodelexport file, that's all there was to it? What error do you get exactly?

I haven't tried it out yet with another model.

I'll go try it out sooner or later, and once I do, I'll edit my message to tell you if it worked with another model or not.
