can anyone help me I have maya 8.5 32bit and have tried to install the plugin into
documents/maya/8.5 and the usersetup into maya/8.5/scripts with no joy.
the paths are correct as no paths on the tutorials were correct for me.

If you follow this tutorial it should work fine:

Make sure you change your paths correctly, because you already said your were different then normal.
