I have purchased an Alienware x51 PC with the following specs:
Internal Components
Superior Intel® Core™ i7-3770 3.9GHz (8MB Cache) with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660
Genuine Windows® 7 Home 64-Bit
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel SDRAM - 2 Dims
Dual Layer DVD Burner (BD-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
1TB Hard Drive - 3.5"
Dell Wireless 802.11g/n
Power Supply: Alienware™ 330 Watt Power Supply

I would like to upgrade the GPU to a GigaByte Nvidia 3GB GTX660Ti OC Graphics Card. GeForce GTX 660 Ti. Windforce. I know that higher spec GPU require a high Watt power supply. Will I be able to upgrade the gpu in my PC the the above?
Will I need to also upgrade my Power Supply or will it support the graphics card and pc components without any issues.

Any comments welcome.
Thanks in advance

I got the same rig as you and I was told that upgrades on the x51 are tedious because of the size of casing. Anyway let me knpow how u come out cuz im curious to see the outcome

I know that there is little space in the case however I am going to be removing the Optical Disk Drive to create more space as mine isn't bluray. That will enable better air circulation and there will be less power consumed. Plus the graphics card can be updated. But I am not sure whether 330 Watts power supply will feed enough electricity into the computer to power the GPU

It's pitiful that Alienware would even think that a 330w power supply is decent enough for even an entry-level gaming PC. :P

In order to find out for yourself if you can perform this upgrade, get the measurements of your new card and compare it to your current one after opening up the case - going by what Zombiejelly says, your case size could be a potential problem. You'll also be needing to replace that power supply which means a lot of cable re-organisation, this can be tough sometimes in a small space so you may find yourself bumping into a few issues there too.

I don't have experience with Alienware but their parent company Dell likes to build proprietary cases around their underpowered PSUs, which makes it increasingly difficult to get the PSU out of the case and even harder to manage a new one in there. Good luck.
