Well I updated my Nvidia graphics card driver the other day to the newest driver that just released and It improved my overall pc. I could even run C4D Bench perfectly with no system shutdowns (which i couldn't even run before). But today my pc has been shutting off randomly while not even doing anything. I was surfing the web with nothing else running but Malware-bytes running a scan and BOOM my pc shutoff. I have the money to buy a new power supply now but I don't want to waste money on a new one if that's not what is causing this problem.

Anyone have any explanation for this problem? Do you still think its the power supply or do you think its something else?

I appreciate any advice and maybe an explanation of what's happening. I'm pulling my hair out.  ???

Does it only happen when CPU utilization is high?

Download MSI Kombustor (or similar), #1 Leave your PC doing virutally nothing, not even scan or using it, see if it turns off, if not, #2 Try its CPU Burner (most like Kombustor have a CPU stress tester) app while monitoring temps and power usuage with something like HW Monitor.

I would also if you can try picking up, can't remember what you call them, but essentially you plug it in to socked, plug-in your PC and it will tell how much power is being drawn, this will give you a good idea if its power usage but a 750WATT should be fine considering my 650WATT XFX one is powering a fairly hefty system with lots of fans, hdds, GTX 570, etc.

Sounds like faulty ram to me

Often just popping it out and back in again is enough, otherwise replace. But it causes random issues like sudden crashes, freezes or refusing to start up at all

Not saying thats it, but maybe something to check

Wouldn't do any harm running a RAM test.

Well I rebooted my pc and installed Kombustor and ran its benchmark test and then its burn test and all ran well. I monitored it with HWmonitor and everything seemed fine. I did the burn test for 5 minutes and my Graphics card stayed constant. I then closed it all down and opened up C4D Bench and ran the CPU test and monitored it on HWmonitor and it seemed to work ok, my CPU did get close to the 44*C max and 115V max but it cooled down after the test.

I also checked all my connections in my pc and took the ram out and put it back in just to be safe. I also cleaned all my fans and CPU fins.

This is where it gets interesting, I closed all of those testing programs and started up GTA V (Which i played for about 4 hours straight last night) and about 3 minutes into the game CLICK! My pc shut off. So I turned my pc back on and let it fully load up then tried C4D Bench again only this time I ran the CPU test, then immediately after it finished I ran the Open gl test and CLICK my PC shut off. So this has to be an overheating issue or a power supply issue right? Running all the tests separately doesn't cause the shut off but running them right after the other causes it.

What confuses me is why today it shutoff while using Chrome and Malwarebytes and not during 4 hours of GTA V last night.

I also just found this Recall which my power supply meets unfortunately (i checked my serial number and it's one of the recalled ones :( ) http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=123484

Apparently the power supply fan never turns on which could be my problem.

But I really want to play my games I just bought on Steam and not have to wait weeks for a replacement.

I appreciate you guys helping me, Let me know if you have another idea/fix.

actually sounds to me like your GPU has gone, or was already faulty

If your power supply fan is not activating tho i would stop using that PC immediatly, before you seriously damage it

I don't think its a bad GPU, I mean I've been playing all the newest games on max with no problems until recently but I have had this GPU and PSU for 2 years.

I checked the event viewer and all of the shutoff's are listed as "event 41 kernel power crash" So I may just go to Micro Center tomorrow and buy a new PSU and see if it fixes it. If it dont I should have 30 days to return it. I'm just tired of dealing with this crap and just want to get back to playing games and making zombie maps.  ;)

the fact its been working for two years already doesnt mean it cant be faulty. I recently had to replace my wifes dads after it clonked out after just 6 months ( refunded by the shop as they confirmed it was a manufactorer fault )

but yes try the PSU

I bought a new PSU today. I got the EVGA 850W. It solved all my problems so far. I can open huge scenes in C4D and Unity with no problems what so ever. I ran all the different tests using MSI Kombustor and C4D Bench with no problems at all.

I just want to thank everyone for helping me with this issues.  ;D
