For my PC build that I am doing soon, I have a question about the CPU and Motherboard being compatible.

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460
Motherboard: MSI H81M-E34

I know they are compatible as far as the CPU socket goes but there is something I saw on pcpartpicker.com that i'm not really sure about.

https://gyazo.com/3da93009a9750686940ed5fd450f900f

And also this on the CPU description:
https://gyazo.com/5cb5238d6a40fe03a1e746b58d94d478

Does this apply to me? If so, is it something easy to do or is it going to give me problems?

Looks like you might. If you do you'l just need to download the .EXE/MSI from their website and run it either from inside windows(if you even can) or from the USB by booting to it.

Just make absolutely sure that NOTHING interrupts or stops the BIOS install process. If something does, you'l most likely have a dead PC.

Hardest thing you'l actually have to *maybe* do is launch the bios update from the DOS shell which may require knowing a few basic commands.

So I should be able to load into at least the bios (or maybe even windows) before I do the update? I read somewhere online that I would need to borrow a different cpu or take it to a shop because the system would not even boot before the update was done.

Yes, that is entirely possible. If you don't have anyone that has a LGA 1150, you can pick up this for $60 at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117374&cm_re=Pentium_G3258-_-19-117-374-_-Product

That dual core Pentium processor is completely unlocked, meaning that you can overclock it as high as it will allow. It won't out perform a quad core even if you did, but its still fun to see how far you can push it. I've seen some people overclock it as high as 4.7ghz even. Hell of a deal.

Edit: quad not dual. Derp.

Idk I may swap out my motherboard to avoid all this then. Especially since this is my first build I don't wanna risk messing something up. Thanks for the help.

I'd say you're going to need some very nice cooling for that. XD

I've built a few PCs for friends, I think 2 had similar priced MSI Mobo, none have come back to me and are still playing with me on Steam in games. ;)

I'm an idoit, just realized that the one picked out had the same problem lol. Gotta keep searching lol

Double Post Merge: November 24, 2015, 03:56:05 am
After a little more searching, I came across this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157547

Anyone have any different recommendations?
I'm looking for Micro ATX, LGA1150 Socket,  Z97 or H97 Chipset, for preferably under 60$, preferably on Amazon or Newegg

Wasn't really much to choose from for my price range when I looked around for those specs.
