Hello everyone, I’d like to share my new tool for converting sounds for World at War. This converter uses the same packaging as MODSound.exe, but it’s more practical to use since it doesn’t require having a soundalias ready to convert sounds. It also includes an integrated audio converter from xWMA/ADPCM to PCM, which is useful for ensuring compatibility with the game during the conversion process. The main converter has 3 modes:

  • PRIV Only (No Compression): This mode only includes the PRIV header plus other necessary game data, without adding any compression. It works with all soundaliases and in-game sound functions.
  • ADPCM (Streamed): This mode includes the above, along with ADPCM compression. It’s ideal for any type of soundalias and in-game sound function.
  • xWMA (Loaded): This mode only includes the PRIV header, excluding the additional data present in the other two modes. It provides the highest level of compression, which also slightly reduces audio quality. This compression mode is not compatible with soundaliases that use "streamed" or "looping" tags, and it cannot be used with loop-type functions in GSC, CSC or UI. The limitation with these tags is 100% confirmed. Additionally, if you try to use xWMA-encoded sounds in looping functions, the audio will sound slowed down and heavily reverbed (based on my experience). There is also documentation on this forum supporting this behavior, so please keep this in mind.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to let me know, I’ll be paying attention to your comments.
