I've been trying to import a custom gun. It isn't a standard export/import scenario, import only.

The problem, as far as I can tell, is that I do not have .DDS files to use in asset manager. I've tried converting the .tga files to .dds with no success.



My next idea is to convert using GIMP.

you can use both .tga and .dds for textures .-.
tga work for normal maps and diffuse maps
and dds 1 for for diffuse , and dds5 for blend textures

so what is your problem? do ass man gives you an error when you try to use tga?

Correct, I get an error of "filename.tga was previously converted using a different format"

This only happens when a .tga is used for the color map. The normal map works fine.

well download this http://www.getpaint.net/
with that open your tga and save it as dds then it will give the option to select DXT1, thats for the color map and keep your tga for normal map

before converting it with assman go to the forlders  "images" "material_properties" "materials" in "raw" and use the search bar to search for your the texture that says it was previously converted (filename.tga but it wont have the tgs extension) ...this is just for preventing asset manager to mess it up because it always makes me its jokes saying that it cant do anything because there was a file with that name. hope i help :)

Thanks for the input.

After comparing the different assets for the WaW models, I realized my normal maps were causing the problem. I tried converting without them and the textures stuck, but it is still transparent/inside-out.



Any ideas?

Solved it. The normal map on the model itself was reversed. Changed it in maya and its fine now. No normal map file needed.
