Porting guns from non COD titles?

I don't have any other cods other than Waw and I want to get from other non cod titles from other fps games like BF3 etc. is it possible to port the guns and if so what do I need and how would I do it?

I don't have any other cods other than Waw and I want to get from other non cod titles from other fps games like BF3 etc. is it possible to port the guns and if so what do I need and how would I do it?

You can just download a bf3, or bf4 gun or model from tf3dm.com, but I'm not sure if its legal, and then just import it into maya and export.


** You could rip them yourself from bf3, but it's alot harder than just donwloading a .fbx or obj

Isint downloading weaponfiles Not....so legal... and how would I rip the guns anyways? Js Im a complete noob at doing this...
tf3dm usually hosts ripped content which is technically stolen intellectual property. turbosquid.com is more strict about the hosted content. You can filter by price and find weapons that people have released for free which can then be downloaded, rigged and animated. Another option in it's own would be to model the weapons from scratch. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube for doing so.

Another option in it's own would be to model the weapons from scratch. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube for doing so.
Also, weapons are a great place to learn modelling, guns can range from flat to curved, and have a variety of surfaces and fine details. I would suggest that if you are interested in modelling, learn weapons first.

Let's see, since I don't have bf3 or bf4 on pc, I don't know what the file types are, I suppose the dice has theyre on file type for weapons.. Just look it up, how to convert bf3 gun files to (obj, fbx, maya, 3ds) whatever you want.. Good Luck

I would have to disagree with that :p. I don't think (my opinion) that weapons are a great thing to get into when first modeling, If you really want to model for waw, I would start off with some furniture or barrels or even a small car.. In my oppinion for a weapon to look good, you have to either be a really good modeler or a really good texturer.

Models for BO1 were obtained from the mod tools which we have written permission to use as expressed by their EULA.
And to elaborate on this, models from BO2 and other CODs are ripped using Lime from Tom_BMX's tools and a few other methods. He recently released Lemon, his tool to rip animations from the later CoDs, but it only supports BO1 because of some... certain people giving him the chance to give off Treyarch's property for personal gain.

Like I said weapons come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they teach you all the different surfaces and types of edges you have to deal with in modeling. Texturing isn't that hard, if you have a picture of a gun and the model is to scale, you can just slap the entire photo onto the model.

You don't need maya 8.5. You can use the student version of maya 2012-2015 with Aidan's xmodel/xanim export plugin which can be found on our wiki.

Here.

If you're enrolled in a K-8/High-School (Secondary) or a College level of schooling, they give you free stuff.
And if you're not enrolled, just paste in the info of a legit school and you're good.
