alright guys so i have a question that i know isnt very easy to answer verbally but is an easy question, how do you texture a weapon, like in maya i have all my uv maps ready to go but from there where do i go? how do i make the gun looked detailed and look like a real gun? any tips or tricks or even tuts.

lol, you could have made the gun based on a picture and the create uvs based on camera
what i mean use a real life picture and make your uvs match it

That method usually results in a bad texture projection and a bad UV layout. Your UV layout will only be projected well on one axis, which means the depth that is not seen by that camera projection will just be stretched garbage.

The UV Layout in the editor will also be hard to work with because the width of the gun goes all the way across - this will force you to use a higher resolution texture to compensate for the quality loss.

To the OP: Look up some UV Mapping tutorials on YouTube, specifically for weapons. It will take a lot of time and practice, and will probably not make much sense at all when you start at it. Keep with it.

Ok well I can uv map everything fine i understand that but what I don't get is how to open the uv map in photoshop and texture it like how do you texture it?
Create a PSD Network using Maya - should be able to find some info in the Autodesk documentation through Google.

If you want to paint the weapon then you would wanna use a program like mudbox or zbrush, but it won't look very good without a highpoly model so if you wanna do that create a high poly and then a low poly. Then create the normal maps from the high poly and project them on the low poly, that's how most FP game models are made.
