Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO): Net Neutrality

If you haven't already seen this clip from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO, you should. It's quite a hilarious and entertaining clip that entirely gets the point across about the recent Net Neutrality legislation and the FCC.

If you are a US resident, there is something you can do to help stop the FCC's plan to allow Internet service providers to charge for preferential treatment:

Call: FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler: 1-202-418-1000

Say:

I'm calling to urge Chairman Wheeler to scrap the FCC's plan to allow Internet service providers to charge for preferential treatment.

These rules would destroy Net Neutrality. I urge the chairman to throw them out and instead reclassify broadband as a telecommunications service. This is the only way to restore real Net Neutrality.

Also, call your Senators and Representatives

Protip- if you send an email, don't just copy and paste, it gets marked as spam and doesn't get read.

I would rather call US IT/WEB companies.

this is pure lobbyism. - Google, FaceBook, MicroSoft, NETFLIX, IBM, Apple, ... the list goes on.

Those companys should just make a better deal - and everything is fine.

Who thinks that words to an politican have any influence when the other party has some black suites with the doller sign on it.

We have in Germany a similar issue. One of the biggest ISP wants to throttle after a certain amount of GB/month the internet for the whole month. - But of course "premium" services aren't effected by it.
This 2 class system internet is just a new way to squeeze money out of us.

I understand that big companys should pay something to the ISP to extend the network - but they just don't do it, it just goes into their own pockets.

Not directly, as the "premium" service isn't even available everywhere which makes it even worse.
At least they set the 10GB limit to 40GB recently.
