I did a lot of Xbox 360 modding (including the not-so-legal kind) and thought about making a custom case. Then I realized that it was a waste of time considering fat Xbox's all eventually die an irrecoverable death (short of owning a reflow station). I have 3 half broken xbox's sitting on my shelf waiting to be sold on eBay lol. One's got the E74 that I've only been able to do temporary fixes to, and the other two have reoccuring 3RROD's that I've fixed multiple times with a heatgun. I finally just gave up on it all because it was a lot of time to invest with little return. Good luck with your project, and think very carefully before putting a lot of money into an unstable console. You'd be better off putting the cash towards a custom PC or a new slimline Xbox 360.

It will still eventually die lol, just a matter of time. One of my Xbox's lasted 3 years before it died from E74.

Also the dust isnt the problem, its a fundamental design flaw in the way that Microsoft chose to mount the motherboard to the case and also how they chose to keep pressure between the heatsinks and the GPU/CPU. The pressure of the heatsink x-clamps warps the board over time, combined with the centered weight of the system flexing downward since there are no supports between the center of the mobo and the bottom of the shell casing inside. There's a gap that the mobo slowly bends into. Once the board flexes enough its only a matter of time before solder joints begin to break from the change of angle and stress. The heat generated from the chips as well as the rest of the system add to the speed of the joints breaking. Sometimes the system can actually get hot enough to partially reflow the solder joints, causing them to partially melt and then reform to the new angle of the board. This causes cold solder joints which will not make a good connection. All of this together casues the majority of RROD's and E74 errors, and is why you cannot trust a fat Xbox 360 to last without making some serious modifications early on (before the problems start).

Wow I typed a lot lol...

Microsoft, why  :fuuu:
