When i go patch a terrain my texture either turns invisible or has a checkerboard texture and wont let me add a texture to it. and i have show patches as wireframe unchecked.

This is because its a terrain patch this means it thinks you want it flat so what you need rotate it and make it bigger.

I got it. the problem was i couldnt have a texture touching another texture
