Project Finished

Background story:

In the last days of WW2 a british paratrooper unit was sent to a remote place near the Rhine. What was told to the soldiers was that they were going to set free a boarding school ruled by a nazi officer, and identified member of the group 935, the doctor Hermann Schuster. However the destiny of that unit remains untold. Two months after, with the war finished, the strange place was closed and abandoned. Nothing was heard of the students, professors, the british soldiers or even the doctor Schuster himself.

A week later, somehow, Richtofen landed the teleporter inside the cursed building... The locals still remember that night, those screams, those lights...

Description:

Das Herrenhaus is a zombie single player/Co-op map based in Der Riese style scripts and tries to capture the kino der toten feel. It represents an elite boarding school ruled by nazi scientists. This map is in the final stage of development.

A political unit from the NSDAP was ruling the school

I'm only showing you a very, very little of my map cause I'm working so hard on detailing and storytelling via the map that I don't want to spoil anything. However, I can explain and show some things. The mapping part is done like a 90%. Someone could take what I have now and release it as a beta, I'm not that way. The basic structure of the whole building is done. (Main rooms, corridors, classrooms and so). However, some things (scripting) are stoping me. I'm looking for help in some fronts.

The Library

The Progress:

The whole main structure is now finished. When the detailing of the map is finished I'll make the story events and more... I've been working in this map so long, and I'm not going to say it will be finished by... I don't know. I just enjoy making it because I'm a detail lover. I love making every part of the architecture of the building to make it as real as I can. If you really want I could post more details, but as I said, I don't wan't to spoil anything, so when you play my map you can die because you were looking at the walls... ;)

- 0.9.1 UPDATE -

Major Fixes

- All mapping is finished
- Thundergun fully working (fx, knockdowns, sounds etc)
- Perk Jingles work stock way, no override or sloppy scripting
- Novas now have bo1 anims and sounds, custom fixed even idles
- Boss attack secondary effects now working (he is not a simple zombie with infinite health anymore)
- Custom zombies and materials can be torched


Minor Fixes

- Barriers give now small tremble when repaired like bo1
- Bo1 Knifing system
- Zombies won't grab as much
- Lots of Clipping added
- Nova Traverse anims
- Novas now have properly set up damage and don't kill each other
- Scripting bugs
- Material related stuff


Added

- First Step of the EE including boss zombie spawn and functionalities
- Harrybo1 Shield
- Secret bo2 wonder weapon (shooting stuff EE)
- Final weapon list
- Some Fx around map like dust, smoke and lights

VERY interesting level detailing you've done. You rarely see that kind of style in this modding scene - not sure why. Looking forward to seeing more pics!

Terminaor, Is there any policy in having UGX mod features without implementing the mod? I need some BO special weapons and I'm trying to get the perk machines on/off working with jingles... But that things are locked up within UGX mod, so... could I borrow them?

UGX-MOD features are designed for UGX-MOD. We didn't create them so they could be ripped from the mod. If you want UGX-MOD features then use UGX-MOD. Seen some people have strayed away from it, not sure why. If you would like to change something about the experience then do so, the mod is very open for user-editing. Otherwise we would have compiled all the scripts.

The map looks to be WW2 themed, so adding modern weapons would probably derail the feel and flow of the map.

Lot of progress done this week. I will update the screenshots soon. For the weapons part, I like to preserve that ww2 feel, but I'm trying to add weapons that are not just the der riese ones. I asked some modders about the winchester, the revolver from buried and such... however nobody helped. I like detaling the map and adding weapons does not fit me that much.

I formally anounce that the main structure: all rooms and passage, is now finished. I'm fixing some things and the first beta will be aviable soon. I think. See If someone could help me with this:

- How does the burned zombie texture work and how to apply it to a new model (for the boss)
- Anybody got the perk stings work?
- My carpenter powerup gives a killing thread
- Reflections on PaP derp while walking (light works fine, but makes sudden changes on the PaP material)

Updates:

- Map building finished. Needed to fix spawns, zones and portals.
- New zombie variants and working perks with jingles and shaders.
- End game cameras added.
- Will release a Beta for testing soon.

Main problems so far:

- Carpenter gives killing thread and music remains forever.
- One zombie spawner is derping, half of the zombies die before reaching the door.
- Circular map zone problems.
- SFX limit, can't add foggy zones.

I was planning on add the BO m1911, but gotta say I got scared cause there are so many different colts in the mod that I didn't want to mess up the default presets of the game and all that stuff. You know, the zombie_colt, regular colt, dirty_harry...

For the zombie question, well If you want I can post an image. I used many models and stuff that were inside the WaW files but probably cut from the never finished british campaign. Don't get too excited tough, I didn't wanted to have BO2 looking zombies.

Even though most people (including myself) aren't a fan of the WAW guns, they do suit this theme perfectly, and there are only a few, and there are loads of ported weapons which are done brilliantly also, the textures are some of the best I've seen on anyone's ports. Sethnorris's attention to detail is astounding, down to the smallest little thing, it's almost OCD-like  ;D I would go as far as to say this map puts Kino to shame, it is really THAT good.

A lot of time and attention to detail was put into this map. That's fairly evident by the screens and video.

It seems like some scripting assistance has already been donated.  I'm probably not alone in wondering if any experienced scripters are willing to help sethnorris take what appears to be a very good map and make it a great map with polish and replayable value?

Other scripting besides a multi-step EE that might fit the map
(hells retriever, feed cerberus, additional traps, buildables, end game etc)

Nice looking map! atmosphere and lighting look really good. I like the waw weaponry except the colt and a few others but most guns from waw i do like.

This is one of those maps, that has done the atmosphere perfectly! All of it fits in and nothing feels like it is out of place. One of the maps Im hyped about for release :D And I might arrange something about scripting to him, if I can  :please:

The thing is that I'm kind of stuck cause of the damn dogs. The stairwell that leads to pack a punch just bugs the hell out of dogs and also I can't seem to make players die when they fall using solo quick revive. These are obviously stupid issues, but they have me completely demotivated to do anything else before fixing this.

Anyway, the thing is that when i fix this I will have to do the easter egg and oh god how much do I hate the image limit.

Mapping part in radiant is done. Gona start some testing to detect which features to keep and which to delete as well as fixing bugs etc.

Theres a variable in stuffys script set to true or false for this, should be right at the top

Send me your zombiemode.gsc and laststand.gsc and ill fix it

This is to do with your clips, they have to extend past the models "bounding box" which you can toggle on in radiant. Otherwise you can "touch the model" rather than the clip which messes it up for some reason

If you're up for it, you should do some tips on making lighting. It's one of the most important aspects of a map and it makes your detail look much better, and the two are very well designed and go together in this map.

yea them novas...

like seriously i went and bought jugg, then mulekick, then a  gun

moments later bumped into one of these on its own, killed it - explosion killed me

then I was back with 395 ( rounded up to 1500 after dieing completely ) points, lost my mule kick gun ( which was my only good one as the box gave me china lake and panzercheck before that, only other gun was gewher ) and literally no hope of surviving as i respawned at the start each time, and couldnt even get back to my team at all ( who were in the court yard )

lol I really would make them send you critical, but not "kill" coz I was getting badly ripped off by those things last time lol

- 0.9.1 UPDATE -

Major Fixes

- All mapping is finished
- Thundergun fully working (fx, knockdowns, sounds etc)
- Perk Jingles work stock way, no override or sloppy scripting
- Novas now have bo1 anims and sounds, custom fixed even idles
- Boss attack secondary effects now working (he is not a simple zombie with infinite health anymore)
- Custom zombies and materials can be torched


Minor Fixes

- Barriers give now small tremble when repaired like bo1
- Bo1 Knifing system
- Zombies won't grab as much
- Lots of Clipping added
- Nova Traverse anims
- Novas now have properly set up damage and don't kill each other
- Scripting bugs
- Material related stuff

- First Step of the EE including boss zombie spawn and functionalities
- Harrybo1 Shield
- Secret bo2 wonder weapon (shooting stuff EE)

It's better than both tbh, it's probably bigger than both those maps combined, has a creepier atmosphere, more detail, better features, etc. It's just a stunning piece of work.

Make sure your clips extend over models "bounding boxes" ( which you can toggle on in radiant )

turning a model, makes its bounding box change shape, if it extends past a clip, it means you can be "in" it, which causes pathing issues if the model has bullet collision etc

What I meant was that the map had the detail and features to make it seem like it was a Treyarch style zombies map.

then I ask if he planned on adding quotes instead of being stuck with the casual boring old Der riese player quotes.

EDIT: the map also includes teleporter sounds and even the teleporting animation gif, as not many people include the sounds nor the gif, meaning its a treyarch style teleporter.

Problem with shaders it's to do with the map feeling. I don't think bo2 shaders are adequated for this map so I tried to make some look more like ww2 type. The problem is that they look pretty boring. For the powerup shaders I added new ones inspired in the german helmet decals that I think you could like. Any suggestions on how to make the perk ones are welcome

yeah definatly use more colors for them so its not as basic i could possibly whip cuple up in photoshop last one i was doing for jbird is for a futuristic map but he have all the examples i only have old version of them to show, i will ask later when he is online so you could see

I think for a cool idea is to do like a gear, that has a perk icon on it. I quickly made this one to show for example (Note: I know its bad quality, I just made it quickly and if I were to do full-set, they would be more high-quality, this is just example :P )

The Iron Sights as blocked up but the muzzle on the front, but hey, it's a shotgun, who even needs iron sights :please:

I got inspired by hitman's idea and did this today. Hope you like it, cause I already spent too much time on it and not giving any more xD

PD: Also, for the sights thingie on the weapon you are right. But, the weapon I used as base also has the same problem when aiming trough sights in the original game it came from. ;)

Few outlines to take notice of:

- The map can be played as normal without doing the EE just for fun, thee is no required EE step to enjoy the map in its full features.

- The EE is a no turning back, to start it you have to open the forbidden box that you can find in the siniping room, where the teleporter teleports you into. Once the EE is started, the boss will spawn in the courtyard. ADVICE: He'll bring you hell and can't be killed without completing the EE, so think twice before releasing him.

- There are some areas of the map that require a leap of faith, watch your step and jump properly otherwise you could get instadown by trying to upgrade your weapon.

We are ultimating the last two steps of the EE. I planned to release the beta before EE and then ask if people want it, but we got so into it that now it would make no sense to stop ATM. XD

At this speed it will be released before the year is over for sure

Yup, G:Spawn is my new enemy. An in-depth study made me realize that the fire trap alone was using like 30 entities when active, making g:spawn too easy to be achieved. So, I had to take a painful decision and remove the fire trap.

I replaced it with a brand new one, which maybe is not that spectacular, but it uses only two or 4 entities. :P

Still needs sounds and stuff but made this quick test so you can see what I'm talking about:

I can tell you guys don't know sethnorris very well, he already tried it in 3rd person and the characters can just about crawl under it without them touching the blades so they are the perfect height.

Guys, I need your opinions. Thing is, I'm taking some time by trying to fix the dog anims not working on not client players and Its a pain in the ass. I found out that dogs might make the EE super hard cause they break death combos for chests and so on and also they bug out sometimes in some jumping traverses. Also, The damn dogs sometimes just dont spawn the last one, so you get stuck in thier round without being able to progress. So, what do u think? Remove the dogs? Fix them? Improve them? Pet them?

Definitely remove. Not worth all that hassle for something most people don't really care for.

My vote is to remove the dogs. To keep something that you know is faulty in such a gorgeous map would take away from the overall user experience. Most likely would just lead to frustration. Thank you so much for spending the time you have into creating such an incredible looking map. I look forward to playing it.

And finally, it is out. Just finished last tweaks and the first Beta (of course the private one is ready). Gonna assemble a team to test the map in the following days and hope that I would be able to adress most issues and requests.

So it's not a model? Could you not remodel it and apply the texture in a way WaW understands?   :P

they are still models, just extremely hi poly models

The dumps i did get were screwed. Just parts of objects, but worse yet, they were twisted, and warped. All kinds of issues with em - probably a intentional way to make it hard to do i guess. I dunno

I managed to getall the textures just fine, only the meshes were screwed up

Ofc you could just retexture a waw model, or "make" our own. Pretty sure there was a map recently that used the BO3 wunderwaffe textures on the WaW wunderwaffe

I would say you could rip the LOD meshes, but if everything you get is twisted then that's not going to work much better.

its the a black ops 3 thing, ripping other games works just fine, but the stuff you get outta BO3 is just messed up

Congratulations on finally finishing the map, what a sense of accomplishment that must be. I most certainly look forward to playing it. This and other maps mentioned will help with the wait until March when Der Eisendrache gets released for PC. I always end up coming back to playing Custom Maps though!  ;)
