As the title suggests, radiant will freeze randomly upon selecting a texture. It only does this when I select a texture not already loaded. Any ideas?

I tried to run a new map (without changing anything) and also zm_giant and I get the following error:
I have 8gb RAM and at least 2gb is free when this occurs.
