Title: Graphics Card Issue Back
Post by: RonanMerriman on October 24, 2014, 07:01:27 pm
So I've been having this extremely frustrating issue with my computer for a while now. Whenever I turned it on, my monitor would instantly go into power save mode. This happened ever time. I got around it in the early days by turn on the monitor at different times after turning on the computer. Then that took way to many tries and stopped working for me. Then, until recently I spammed F5 after turning both on at the same time. This worked for a while and for some reason now it doesn't.

One day after trying for ages, spamming F5 and turning the monitor on at different times, I deduced that the problem was arising from my graphics card because I plugged my DVI cable into my motherboard's port and after spamming F5, the monitor comes on first try.

This has been bothering me for a while and I was wondering if anyone knows what's up with my graphics card and if there's any solution [other than buying a new graphics card].

Graphics Card in Question:     ASUS Radeon R7265-DC2-2GD5 - 2GB - PCI-E

------

PC Specs: Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40GHz
                 Motherboard: ASUS Z87-K
                 Ram: 8.00GB
                 Monitor: Dell SP2208WFP(Digital)

What cable do you normally use to connect your monitor to the graphics card? DVI?

Yes a DVI. Initially I switched between HDMI and DVI but it was still the same.

Are you able to test with a different monitor?

No, that would not affect the monitor's connection while the computer is still booting in the BIOS.

I have tried before a while ago and form what I can recall it still went instantly to power save mode but I'll try again anyway.

Well if both of the monitors you tested with go to power save mode and you have tried multiple cables then it is a hardware issue with the Graphics Card like you are assuming. I would try googling the issue if you haven't already.

Alright it's fixed now. I just took the graphics card out and put it back in, easy. I guess I'll just do that whenever this happens again. Finally I can return to max settings!

Main Issue:
This problem is back again with a vengeance. The monitor just stays in power save mode for the majority of times I turn the PC on. The thing is, I can't really say the issue is arising from the monitor getting no signal from the graphics card because it worked before and works at random times. It's this inconsistency that really annoys me. I can no longer sit at my desk in confidence that my PC will work.

I'm typing this through the use of the onboard graphics. Why don't I continue using the PC through this input you might ask, well the graphics card ins't for show. I intend on using it.

How I normally get the PC on:
Most of the time I turn the PC on first followed be the monitor and immediately spam F5, that's the most successful way. When I say that I mean it ranges for the first try to about 3 - 6 tries to get monitor working. Once of twice before it came on first try without touching anything, which is what it should be like right? But this is very rare. Two days ago it became futile doing these things as ages of trying to turn it on never prevailed, as if the card just gave up on life or something.

The Fix:
So I have tried the following with no success:

-Try a different monitor
-Take out the card an re-seat it
-Turing the PC on minus one stick of RAM
-Tried a different DVI cable
-Unplugging everything and holding the power button for 10 - 30 secs [looked it up]
-Even cleaned the dust off of all the fans [looked it up too]

Maybe there's something I missing or something I shouldn't be doing. Hopefully someone knows what could be going on and how to fix it. This has been going on far too long now. I want to know that every time I want to use the computer, it will work, and consistently too [not just work once type of thing].

If I still can't get it fixed I'll seek help on one of those specific PC issue fixing type sites.

Here's a picture of the setup out of interest:
