Title: Black Ops 2 world models as viewmodels?
Post by: GKID7891 on February 08, 2017, 12:01:54 pm
Just noticed that most of the BO2 gun viewmodels are missing their right side or are split in half. Can I replace them with their world models or would that mess up animation porting?

Don't worry about the viewmodels being like that, you won't be able to see the blank areas in game (unless your FOV is 120 then some guns show blank areas in the back depending on the model)

But using the World model would mess up the porting process because 1. the joint's won't work properly, and 2. it is not as detailed or not at a 1 to 1 scale

Okay, well I play the game at 120 FOV so I guess I'll have to get used to it then :P

Oh jeez I meant to say that the guns will look fine no matter the FOV, but some guns have blank spaces on the stock that may be visible at a higher FOV, my apologies

No worries, I am used to that ;) Also, I noted that some of the models even had their mags placed behind the too.

Well, thats due to reloads having two mags, such as AN-94 flips the empty mag using another mag

Some can also have both mags in the same place in the viewmodels, but not in the anims. Ive noticed this with the Kamchatka-12 from MWR, don't worry about it unless something goes wrong during porting

They are missing parts for a reason

Infact several

1: save time while modelling
2: because the intended fov ( that everyone seems to have a massive issue with ) would never see that part
3: reduce vert count
4: save effort uving the model

As for the extra clips they are correct, most of the time it's used in the reload anim and is put back there - and again I can't stress this enough - you were not intended to play on these nutty fovs so should never see them

Maybe Treyarch got behind schedule or the Xbox 360/PS3 just couldn’t render that much polygons. Is BO2 a title that pushes the PS3/X360 to their limits?

No it's for the exact reasons I just said

Reduce memory waste and wasted time
