Title: Any better way to add collision to xmodels from the model viewer?
Post by: Taven on October 16, 2016, 07:41:03 am
Been trying to figure out a different way to add collision for the character on some rocks for my multiplayer map. I have yet to find a different way to do it. I already know that using player clipping on all the rock models would work. Just not sure where to start so I am lost.

I believe you can select the model you want to have collision, press N to bring up the KVPs and check the box that says "use_collmap". I'm unsure if all models have a collision set though.

From what i remember colmaps are basically .map files with clip brushes, so its the same thing all ove ragain.

Alright I was looking to see if the rock models I want to use have colmaps with them and they dont. For now I just used a player clip on the rocks though it makes it look more messy it works.

The is most likely the only way we will ever be able to clip objects.

I guess you could use a patch and make it more detailed but that isn't really needed unless you have a slope or something that needs to be clipped.

i delete collmap folder because they create more problems poking out from walls or get caught on by player resulting in death, easier to playerclip the whole map from scratch to ensure a smooth player experience.

At Least for codwaw they was rarely accurate and by clipping the path you mean for the players to take  you can fill in the gaps with literally ANY model without consequences or having to tuck it in 30 units behind the player clip line just incase you get caught on the collmaps.

If collmaps are to big for the object you can indeed remake them in the .map file but one clip in radiant final version of map is faster then editing lets say collmaps for lets say 175 models scattered all over the playable area.

easiest way to clip anything is to right click the top of the screen then select clip generation settings then click generate clip brush done and done
