Title: Zirkus Der Untoten
Post by: Eacaw on October 14, 2016, 04:42:30 pm
Hey, guys, this is going to be the first post on here, other than the introductory post of course, but I actually have something to show you this time!

If you read the introductory post, or if not, I've spent a lot of time working with the source engine and building maps and mods for Source games, mostly Garry's Mod, Counter Strike GO and Left for Dead. A few years back I got dragged away from PC gaming and started playing black ops 2 zombies on the Xbox with a friend, instantly fell in love with it, and unfortunately never got back to the PC, that was until the announcement of the Black ops 3 Mod tools! I instantly bought a full copy of the game for the PC and upgraded my GPU ready for them to come out!

Now they're here, I've spent the last week working on my first map, fitting in hours on it between lectures and stuff at Uni. It's a remake of one of the maps I made for L4D years ago but never completed, you can see that one in my intro post linked below.

This is going to be a large project for me, and I've got quite a full timetable at uni, studying engineering is very time-consuming. But that said, I'm putting in the hours where and whenever I can.

The plan is to build a large zombie circus, with different sections and areas of it, this is also going to be built and tested based on Parkers Piece Cambridge. And although it's a large area to cover, I reckon with enough effort and determination, I should be able to pull it off to a reasonable degree of accuracy.

So far I have manage to build the layout of the first part of the map, and just have all the detailing left to do which considering it's taken me 3 days to get to this point could mean that it'll take me a while to get it finished, but I do plan on creating all the different areas as prefabs, and then at the end stitching them all together in order to build the finished product. I know from experience that if I try and work on one map as a large area, it quickly gets disorienting looking at it in the 2D views with a bazillion different brushes and patches all covering the same cross section!

This is the Prince Regent pub in Cambridge, built and laid out as it was when I worked there 4 years ago (I got bored on shift one day and literally measured the entire pub to write a blueprint out) Obviously the sign on the back says 'coalescence' and this is only because I haven't gotten around to setting up any custom textures yet, but rest assured that I will get it done in due course.

All feedback is welcomed and anticipated.

This shot is from Radiant, as you can see from the in-game shots, the Truck has been removed, this is because the compiler crashes trying to find the model, I've tried it with a few different models to no avail, does anyone know whether there are any vehicle models that I can use for a zombies map? I wanted to have the barrels in the middle of the garden falling out of the vehicle and to break the garden up so it's not such an open area.

This is looking good so far 8) And yeah, most truck models have missing model in them, so they stop compiler. For now, I suggest porting one from other game, so you can then just replace it with BO3 variant when the issue is fixed

I have made some progress today, and plan on doing more tomorrow after university. I've decided to start recording timelapse videos of me doing them and will continue to upload them as and when I have managed to process them.

In Part one, I start working on the inside of the circus tent, the kind you would normally see at a circus, a big red/white tent in a circle where you would go to watch the elephants and the acrobats perform their tricks. Obviously there isn't going to be any of these in the map, instead the circus tent is going to have a teleporter in the middle of it, unfortunately the teleporter models that I have at my disposal are all single entrance based, meaning that you would not be able to enter it from all angles, I'm planning on implementing it into the map as a functioning teleporter, however I'm also going to build my own custom teleporter that I can then use for this. The beginnings of which can be seen in the above image and at the end of the video.

Again, all constructive feedback welcomed, and I will do my best to get another video up tomorrow!

I'm also going to set up a web page where I will also be posting all these videos and information on the map, you will also be able to download any of the prefabs that I create for use in your own maps.
