Title: What do zombie players like in particularly small maps?
Post by: DemonicSouls on September 08, 2016, 09:40:35 pm
Hello There,

As you can see in the subject of this thread i am looking to gather information regarding what players particularly like in medium to small maps. Do they like the fast and quick Easter eggs? Do they like the reaching to high level rounds seeing how long they can survive? Or is it just that the map is small and not much effort is required to get everything?

During the past few days i have been brainstorming on what theme should my first ever map be.After alot and alot of hard thinking i have come to the conclusion of making a semi - box map.Now i don't know what Im going to add in it i just know that i have installed Mod-Tools and plan to be making a cabin in the woods themed map. I am currently taking inspirations from the picture below.

As you can see in the picture there is a bit before you actually reach the door.I plan on making that a starting room with quick revive in it and 2 wall buys. The cabin door would cost roughly 3000 points. Now in the cabin there is only 1 floor. There are 3-4 small doors around the playable area. One door opens power , another opens Jug and the other doubletap. The 4th door will be the easter egg room which i dont have any plans yet for but you will need to shoot 4 things across the map in order to open it. Now in the playable area there will be the mystery box and 2 more wall buys  and a trap. There will be some more decorations and things but i have only just about started this project. Now onto the last bit. After turning on the power you will open up a big door that leads to a teleporter which will send you to a remote area in the woods where you can accumulate the rest of the perks in the map  and pack-a-punch your weapons.

This is a genuine description of what i would like my map to be.Now this is not a full description but its a rough idea. I would just like to hear some feedback on my idea as i dont want to start a project that no1 will like.

Interesting concept. By any chance have you ever played "nazi_zombie_box"? It's essentially a really big box map... but it's only a box. I found that was an interesting map because it was wide open. Personally for me I hate small encapsulated spaces, no room for strategy and it's very easy to die. Take the map "saloon". Literally no possible way to survive passed round 10, unless you're just really good.

If its a small map, it has to have possible strategy spots, and don't make it too close for comfort. But that is my opinion ^^.

Don't make it a box map. Small maps don't have to be bad. Just look at Nacht Der Untoten - it only has 4 simple rooms, yet it gave birth to this entire modding scene. It can still be fun and interesting.

Some examples of great small maps:

Dead Ship, incredible detail and my personal favourite map ever: http://ugx-mods.com/forum/index.php/topic,4153.0.html (http://ugx-mods.com/forum/index.php/topic,4153.0.html)
