Post by: treminaor on January 25, 2014, 06:13:22 am
AliasEditor++ v0.9.0 BETA

I've been working on an app for the last few days which is meant to be the best tool for editing soundalias csv files, called AliasEditor++. The development of this program is part of our effort to release a UGX Developer Package at a later date.

It may be basic but it doesn't necessarily suck. It allows you to display subtitles just by calling a soundalias that is paired with the dialogue. I would assume it also doesn't take up a hudelem since it's cg-drawn. If you use your own system (assuming you don't use iPrintLns), you are taking up hudelems with the text and you can only have a certain amount drawn on screen at a time.

For chaos mode I ran into an issue where if I had 8 perk icons plus the 3 score displays and the combo progressbar some of the elems would disappear or flicker because I was over the hudelem limit. So what I'm getting at is if you were in a similar situation you would not want your subtitles to disappear because of this issue, which could be an advantage of using these subtitles.

Hmm, true. I'm just too worried about sound and string asset space.
Also I modified my hud.menu for iPrintLns to behave like subtitles.

this is my root folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War"
The program takes the root folder specified in the registry folder for the game. If it is not set properly that isn't the fault of the program. It can be changed by opening the registry editor and navigating to the directory:
"Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Activision\Call of Duty WAW" and changing the key "InstallPath" to the correct directory. If there is no folder specified then the program should ask you for a default folder. If you could further explain your issue it might better help towards a solution.

v0.8.1 will be out soon - it will have a File -> New feature for starting blank files, and the Duplicate/Clear/Remove features will be implemented in the Tools menu. A right-click menu has also been added for the edit commands, as well as shortcut keys.

I decided to bump the version number up farther than 0.8.1 since a lot of new features have been added and I do not anticipate having to add much more.

New version released:

So from the lack of comments I could either guess that a) the program works perfectly and no one has found any bugs, or b) no one has been using the program.

Does anyone have any feedback? Bug reports? Anything?

Yeah, for some reason the AliasEditor duplicates some of the alias lines, causing errors ex:
Code Snippet

Found this bug yesterday when investigating a different one. Currently working on some crash fixes while saving files that have alias lines removed - then I will release an update that fixes this problem and other crashes.

This is the AliasEditor topic, I'm guessing you meant to post in the WeaponsEditor topic...

Depending on where you are getting the weaponFiles, they are probably formatted badly and even though the game might still accept them, my tool is not going to want to deal with broken files  ::)

Do you mean having a "Browse" button for the file setting of an alias?

I could implement that but for people that are searching through Treyarch's soundaliases, 90% of the sounds are still in FFs or IWDs, inaccessible to a simple program like this. Would be too much work for me.

It should, but I would make backups first. It's still an early beta and I have not had any time to visit the reported crashes.

Open an existing file containing weapon aliases, save it as a new file, then open the new file for editing.

Yes, like I mentioned earlier I have already gotten crash reports from people and have not had time to fix them. I have a version on my computer currently that has some of the issues fixed but it is not finished yet.

As far as the error goes, try using a different file as your base. Clicking aliases does work, so picking a different file may make the program happy for now.

Whenever I try to modify any boxes or add a new/duplicate alias I crash, clicking continue makes the message come up again. The info in the box doesn't change either.

Ran as admin, alias file is not read only, not write protected...

Oops, didn't read thread, same error as Daedra!

CoD4 is not fully supported because it has different names for some of the settings and certain settings which CoD5 does not have at all.

To specify this is a bo3 aluas. I know this isn't fully functional with bo3, but this seemed simple enough

I would venture a guess that it's not going to work with BO3. I don't have time to update it and not enough people seemed to use this program to justify me upkeeping it unfortunately.

Hi!

How this utilite  using for CoDWaW? Can you write a simple manual for CoD5?

I tried to use this utilite. I used as example a sound2d.
I added in path to the file but when I starting in map is not sound.
and even in zone_source been added: sound,mymap,mymap,all_sp
What could be a problem?
Because i selected the sound and this not play.
this is sound I was trying to do for effect. (Dust FX)
Effect type which turns on and off by trigger.

with respect,
Sergei.

The application doesn't even work.  As soon as I make a brand new Alias with the app, it then makes up some error as to not let me do anything.  And then it wont even save or anything.

I suggest starting with a working soundalias file and adding new entries. If you didn't notice from the first post the program was not developed very far and some features are experimental or untested. The most time was spent on editing existing alias files and even that has bugs.

I hoped that people could at least use the tool to read existing files and figure out what the values are supposed to do.

Ardivee made a csv editor for bo3 called acoustix

It’s primarily for bo3 sound aliases but actually works with any csv

Should be available on his wiki but it’s up / down all the friggin time

Otherwise you can use any spreadsheet editor ( excel )
